Other tools and resources useful for Java and Scala developers

Before you start working with the Data SDK, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the core HERE Workspace concepts, as well as the following tools and REST APIs. Also, evaluate SDKs for other programming languages if Java or Scala are not your preferred languages.

• the HERE portal - where you can manage access rights, data, and pipelines, browse documentation, and request support, if necessary.
• Pipeline API - provides endpoints for managing pipelines.
• Data API - provides endpoints for managing data.

• OLP CLI allows you to access Workspace services from a command line or with scripts. For example, you can use the OLP CLI to:

  • Create catalogs and layers
  • Create and run pipelines

  • Share assets

• Maven archetypes available for some project categories to allow you to conveniently create your project scaffolding and to create, publish, and update schemas in the HERE Workspace.

  • Protobuf schema archetype
  • JSON schema archetype
  • Batch archetype
  • Streaming archetype

• Data Inspector is accessible through the portal and also available in the Data Inspector Library for visual representation of the Workspace data structure. We recommend using the Data Inspector when you begin working with a new dataset or debugging pipeline applications, as it immediately shows the visual representation of your data.

  • The Data Inspector displays the coverage of your data on the world map, showing the largest tiles, and allows you to view decoded tiled data as text.
  • Some schema types support data visualization on a map out of the box, such as the HERE Map content topology geometry schema. You can find such data visualization on the Road Topology & Geometry layer. GeoJSON data can also be visualized on a map, as you can see in the HERE GeoJSON Samples.
  • For other data, you can use the Data Inspector to create your own rendering plugins which transform your Protobuf data to GeoJSON.

  Your simplest experience is to use the Data Inspector on the Portal. Just choose the data in which you have an interest, select a layer, and go to the Inspect tab.

  You can also create your own Data Inspector and customize it using the Data Inspector Library.
